There are always speed-bumps along the way to a home closing. We seem to have run into our fair share during this transaction. One of the requirements is to have the in-ground 1000 gallon oil tank removed and replaced with two 275 vertical tanks in the basement. From the onset of this process there had been some discrepancy about the minimum distance from the furnace o the oil tanks. In New Hampshire, the requirement is 5 feet. The home inspector told us that the town of Portsmouth has an additional 5 foot requirement. Also, they had to rip up the carpet (which was fine with me as it is UGLY!).
The oil company arrived and said no, it only needs to be 5 feet from the burner. But even they agreed that the location would better fit the space at 10 feet. So that is what they did. and really it is better because now they only need to frame out and put up one wall, not two.
Next, Extraction of the old 1000 gallon in ground tank from 1981!
You better hope the underground tank did not leak. Can cost thousands to remove soill. Had a friend that cost 25000 to clean contaminated soil.
Phil, all went well. No leakage!
